Mumbai: Bombay High court on Tuesday suspended two FIRs lodged against Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami over the Palghar mob lynching issue and lodged by the Mumbai police over the mobilization of migrant workers in Mumbai's Bandra Railway. T

A division bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Riaz Chagla said that "no prima facie case is made against him". The bench ordered that no strict action should be taken against Arnab. On 12 June, the bench reserved order on the petitions. Senior Harish Salve and Milind Sathe, appearing for Goswami, submitted that the FIR was politically motivated and was recorded as a result of raising voice against the Thackeray government of Maharashtra. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the state of Maharashtra, said that freedom of the press does not include the right to carry out communal propaganda under Article 19 (1) (a) of the Constitution.

A case has been registered against Arnab Goswami under sections 153, 153A, 153B, 295A, 298, 500, 504, 505 (2), 506, 120B and 117 of IPC. Salve contended through section 153B and submitted that no offense has been committed under the aforesaid section. Earlier, the apex court had rejected Arnab Goswami's plea to transfer the case registered by the Mumbai Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation for alleged communal remarks.
