Breaking! Director of India's SPG Arun Kumar Sinha Passes Away at 61

NEW DELHI: Arun Kumar Sinha, the Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), passed away at a Gurugram hospital on Wednesday at the age of 61. Mr. Sinha was primarily responsible for ensuring the close security of the Prime Minister of India.

Mr. Sinha, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1987 Kerala cadre, had his service extended for an additional year until May 31. He had been undergoing medical treatment at a multi-speciality hospital in Gurugram for a period of time leading up to his passing.. Further Details are awaited....

The SPG is entrusted with providing robust armed security coverage in proximity to the Prime Minister. Mr. Sinha had been appointed as the 12th Director of the SPG in March 2016 and held the position "on contract basis" until May 31, 2024. He served with the rank and pay equivalent to that of a Director General of Police.

The Indian Police Service (IPS) association expressed their condolences, stating, "Our hearts are deeply saddened by the loss of Shri Arun Kumar Sinha, an IPS officer of the 1987 Kerala cadre, and Director of the SPG. His unwavering dedication to his duties and exemplary leadership will forever be a source of inspiration for us all. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in eternal peace."

Before his tenure as the SPG Chief, Mr. Sinha had served in various roles within his home cadre state of Kerala and with the Border Security Force (BSF) at the central level.

The SPG, established in 1985, currently comprises approximately 3,000 personnel.
