Hyderabad: A bridge being constructed over the Manair River in Peddapalli district, Telangana, collapsed late on Monday night. Fortunately, the collapse of two cement girders occurred when no one was present, averting any casualties. The bridge was intended to connect Odedu in Peddapalli district with Garmilapalli in Jayashankar Bhoolapalli district and had been under construction since 2016. However, the construction process has been plagued by delays, attributed to changes in contractors and insufficient funds.

Despite being initiated in 2016, the completion of the bridge has been repeatedly postponed, leaving locals frustrated and angry. The estimated cost of the project was initially Rs 46 crore. Angry locals have criticized the government, highlighting the lack of progress in completing the bridge even after eight years of construction.

The collapse of the bridge raises serious questions about the effectiveness of government oversight in managing infrastructure projects and ensuring public safety. It underscores the urgent need for stronger regulations and monitoring to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
