Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has suffered another major setback in Uttar Pradesh. Tribhuvan Ram and former minister Vinod Singh, close to BSP supremo and former UP chief minister Mayawati, have joined the BJP. Vinod Singh, late Congress leader K.N. Singh has a son. He was a minister in the BSP government and hails from Sultanpur.

Engineer-turned-politician Tribhuvan Ram was the chief of PWD during Mayawati's tenure. Along with this, he was also in charge of the Dalit monuments and parks built in Lucknow and Noida. His tenure was further extended by the Mayawati government while he was PWD chief. On Thursday, Ram had told the press that the BSP was losing its relevance due to its racist attitude. He had said, 'Dalit icon B.R. R. Ambedkar and BSP founder Kanshi Ram said that a party can help the poor and Dalits only when it is in power. The BSP did not follow this even while in power.

Ram and Vinod Singh said that they are deeply influenced by the pro-poor policies of the PM Modi-led government and Yogi Adityanath's rule in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh BJP unit president Swatantra Dev Singh said that the two leaders would empower the party and take it forward. He said, 'We hope that they will continue to work for the poor and dalits'.
