Buddha Purnima 2024: PM Modi, Murmu, Top Leaders  extend warm wishes

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and several other leaders extended heartfelt wishes on the occasion of Buddha Purnima 2024, celebrated on May 23. Buddha Purnima, also known as Buddha Jayanti or Vesak, marks the birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha, who was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautam in Lumbini, present-day Nepal, around 563 BC. It is observed on the first full moon day of the Hindu calendar month Vaishakha.

PM Modi, President Murmu, and others expressed their greetings and highlighted the significance of Buddha Purnima. The day is celebrated with great fervor by Buddhists worldwide, who commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and death of Lord Buddha.

Prime Minister Modi took to social media to share his wishes. He posted a video message, saying, “Greetings on Buddha Purnima. Over the last decade, our work highlights our deep-rooted commitment to fulfill Lord Buddha’s ideals and build a planet that is prosperous and sustainable.”

President Murmu extended her wishes, emphasizing the teachings of Lord Buddha. She stated, “On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, I extend my heartiest congratulations and greetings to all fellow citizens and the followers of Lord Buddha spread all over the world. The embodiment of compassion, Lord Buddha, has given the message of truth, non-violence, harmony, and love for humanity and all living beings. His teachings of tolerance, self-awareness, and good conduct inspire us to serve humanity. His Eightfold Path paves the way for leading a meaningful life. Let us strengthen social harmony and take pledge for nation-building by imbibing the ideals of Bhagwan Buddha in our lives.”

Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his wishes, highlighting the significance of Lord Buddha’s teachings. He wrote, “Hearty congratulations and best wishes on the sacred festival of Buddha Purnima! By giving the message of sacrifice, non-violence, compassion, and friendship, Lord Buddha gave the key to living a meaningful life to the entire human society. His teachings will continue to guide all of us for ages.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal extended warm wishes to the countrymen on Buddha Purnima. He said, “Warm wishes to all countrymen on Buddha Purnima. May your life be filled with happiness, peace, and prosperity with the blessings of Lord Buddha.”

Buddha Purnima is a day of reflection and celebration of the principles of peace, harmony, and compassion espoused by Lord Buddha, which continue to resonate across the world.
