New Delhi: At least 29 people including students were injured when multiple vehicles collided near Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi,  on Monday (January 30) morning, the police informed. The injured persons include 25 students, 3 school staff and one public person, officials said.

The incident took place at the Salimgarh flyover in IP Estate area. Preliminary investigations showed that a brake failure on one of the buses, was the likely cause of the accident. Officials from the police department have reached the sport, and additional inquiries are being conducted.

All injured have been taken to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital  where they are undergoing treatment. Legal action is also being taken in the matter, officials added.

Data on in traffic-related accidents:  Data provided by India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways show that 1,53,972 people died in traffic-related accidents in 2021 and 3,84,448 people were injured.

The annual incidence of traffic accidents increased 12.6% in 2021. Traffic accidents caused a 16.9% increase in fatalities and a 10.3% increase in injuries.

In 2021, 1,28,825 accidents occurred on national highways (including motorways), 96,382 incidents occurred on state highways, and 1,87,225 accidents occurred on other routes, according to "Road Accidents in India," an annual report released by India's Ministry of Road Transport and Roads.
