Cabinet clears Rs 19,744-cr National Green Hydrogen Mission

NEW DELHI: The union cabinet on Wednesday, January 4, cleared the government's ambitious National Green Hydrogen Mission with a whooping outlay of Rs 19,744 crore. Under the mission, it is anticipated that India is expected to achieve 5 MMT of hydrogen production capacity by 2030.

With this, It targets to make India a global hub for green hydrogen production and fuel cell technology. It  also envisages incentives for electrolyser manufacturing to the tune of nearly Rs 4,500 crore.

Notably, the National Green Hydrogen Mission plans to give direct incentives for green hydrogen manufacturing worth Rs 13,000 crore. 

The mission will be headed by the cabinet secretary and an empowered group of secretaries.

Under the mission, 6 lakh emplolyments are ensured, minister for information and broadcasting Anurag Thakur told the media persons after the cabinet briefing.

The Mission will have wide-ranging benefits including creation of export opportunities for green hydrogen and its derivatives, mobility and energy sectors; reduction in dependence on imported fossil fuels and feedstock; decarbonisation of industrial,  development of indigenous manufacturing capabilities; development of state-of-art technologies and creation of employment opportunities;  an official statement said.
