CAIT writes to IT Minister 'impose ban on messaging app and its parent company'

New Delhi: The All India Federation of Merchants (CAIT) has demanded the Government of India to ban social media apps WhatsApp and Facebook. The organization has written a letter to Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad demanding this. The organization has made this demand in terms of Whatsapp's new privacy policies. Since social media giant Facebook is the parent company of Whatsapp, it is also sought to be banned.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has said that whoever uses this app will go to the company after the new privacy policies, all important information including all kinds of personal data, financial transactions, contacts, and locations. At the same time, it is feared that it can be used in any manner, which is not clearly mentioned.

The traders' organization has demanded that either WhatsApp be prevented from implementing the new privacy policy or put the ban on it and on Facebook. Cait said that There are more than 20 crore subscribers of Facebook in India and giving them access to such information is a threat not only to the country's economy but also to security. While WhatsApp has said that it is bringing a new policy to increase transparency.
