Ottawa : A Canadian indigenous community on Wednesday said the dead remains of 182 people were found in unmarked graves around a former indigenous residential school near Cranbrook in Canada's British Columbia province. Royal Canadian Mounted Police Corporal Sheldon Rob told the media, "We are investigating it as a suspected case.". Pope Francis has also been asked to apologise for the abuse of children in indigenous residential schools.

The president of Canada's largest indigenous organization said on Wednesday that Pope Francis will hold a meeting with indigenous leaders later this year and will talk when he comes to Canada. At the same time, he will apologize for the role of the church in the running of schools. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops said the Pope will meet separately at the Vatican with representatives of Canada's three largest indigenous groups- First Nations, Mattis and Inuit. It will conclude during a four-day series of meetings in December this year. The bishop wrote, 'Pope Francis is committed to listening directly to indigenous peoples, expressing his heartfelt closeness, addressing the impact of colonialism and the role of the church in the residential school system'

Let us tell you that this is the third such case. The remains of 751 children were recently recovered from a canadian residential school. An official had said that investigators had found 751 unmarked graves in the premises of the residential school. It was feared that the bodies of the children were also buried in them. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission had given a detailed report on child abuse at the institute five years ago. It said at least 3200 children died due to abuse and negligence. Some experts also said that tribal children were murdered in the name of civilising a church-run school, though no authentic facts have emerged.
