OTTAWA – A day after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared a state of public emergency, the government announced additional steps to end trucker protests and blockades. According to reports, anyone involved in the blockades is urged to return to their communities peacefully and immediately, according to a press release issued by Public Safety Canada on Tuesday.

"These blockades must be lifted, and the federal government will pursue all available options," the release stated. Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino stated during a press conference on Tuesday that they would like to see the 19-day occupation end this week, assuring Ottawa residents that the city's chaos will soon come to an end. "Nobody wants another weekend like the previous three. And my discussions with the police have convinced me that they fully understand this, and we now rely on them to do their job "Mendicino remarked.

The minister stated that police will soon establish "no-go" zones in the city's downtown core, and those who refuse to leave will face fines or jail time, or both. Mendicino stated that authorities will erect additional concrete barriers and pressure private tow truck companies to remove the clogged trucks from Ottawa's streets.
