Bangalore: The Karnataka Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department has issued orders on what procedure to follow before slaughtering animals. In this order, all the slaughter houses have been told that they cannot keep any animal conscious while killing it. That is, it will be necessary to make the animal unconscious before being slaughtered. Let us know that this process is called stunning, in which the animal is made unconscious by hitting it on the head or giving it gas or electric shocks. After this, the process that takes place to halal the animal is completed.

Following the order issued by the Karnataka government, the Bengaluru Municipal Corporation has asked that such a facility should be checked while issuing licences to abattoirs and chicken shops. The Bommai government has taken this decision in the middle of the month of Ramadan. Earlier, Hindu organisations had opposed halal meat and demanded its boycott. After this directive, some people say that if the animal is cut unconscious, it will not be considered halal. Let us know that, in the halal process, the animal is cut slowly and its meat is used after full blood has been released. At the same time, according to Hindu custom, the meat of the animal cut by the shock is used.

On April 1, the deputy director of animal husbandry and veterinary services, citing the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules, 2001, had directed the Bengaluru civic body to ensure that the animals are knocked unconscious before they are killed. The letter had also said that his department has received complaints from the public that government rules are being ignored before the slaughter of animals.
