New Delhi: The central government forcibly retaliated by retiring 15 officers. They are all senior officers of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Apart from corruption, there were many other cases on all these. All the 15 retired officers were also arrested by the CBI. These included officers holding the post of Commissioner of Income Tax (CIT), CIT, Junior CIT, CIT Commissioner.

It may be noted that 27 high-ranking officers of the Indian Revenue Service were forcibly retired in June this year. These included 12 officers of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. Everybody's name was involved in corruption. It may be known that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech from Red Fort on 15 August also expressed concern over the harassment from the tax authorities.

Nearly half of the officers who were forcibly retired were arrested for allegedly taking illegal bribes. One of these officers was caught taking a bribe of Rs 15,000. An officer was found to have more assets than his known sources of income. The government wants to give a message to the bureaucracy through these steps.
