New Delhi: In a significant move to address escalating air pollution concerns, the Centre has taken decisive action by mandating the immediate enforcement of anti-pollution measures falling under Stage-III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the Delhi-NCR region. This initiative, driven by the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) Sub-Committee on Clean Air and Sustainable Mobility, aims to counter the ongoing deterioration of air quality in the National Capital Region.

The comprehensive 8-point action plan, aligned with Stage-III of GRAP, encompasses a range of stringent measures. Notably, operations in stone crushers and all mining and related activities in the NCR have come to a halt. Furthermore, a rigorous ban on construction and demolition activities has been implemented throughout the region, with specific exemptions permitted for certain project categories. These measures are crucial in mitigating the sources of particulate matter and dust, common contributors to the region's air quality challenges.

In a bid to address vehicular emissions, a significant contributor to the air pollution crisis, the State governments in the NCR and the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) have been directed to impose strict restrictions on the use of BS III petrol and BS IV diesel Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) with four wheels. This targeted restriction is expected to have a direct impact on reducing emissions from the transportation sector, contributing to the overall improvement of air quality in Delhi and the surrounding districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar.

The emphasis on aligning with GRAP Stage-III reflects a recognition of the severity of the air quality situation and a commitment to adopting comprehensive measures to address the root causes of pollution. This initiative underscores the government's determination to prioritize public health and environmental well-being by taking decisive steps to combat air pollution in one of the most heavily affected regions in the country.
