Central government considering about giving pension to Anganwadi workers and assistants

New Delhi: The central government is considering a proposal to include Anganwadi workers and assistants under the ambit of the pension scheme. The Ministry of Women and Child Development has informed a committee of Parliament in this regard. Originally, this pension scheme was formulated to provide pension to unorganized sector workers, but now the government is considering to include Anganwadi workers and helpers within its ambit.

A report of the Public Accounts Committee presented in the Parliament recently quoted the Ministry as saying that a scheme will be launched to provide pension to the workers in the unorganized sector, which is basically for the workers engaged in the construction work. We are also trying to involve Anganwadi workers and assistants in it. We have recently sent a file in this regard to the Finance Department.

According to the Ministry of Women and Child Development, two types of insurance schemes have been introduced for Anganwadi workers and assistants. It has one life insurance and other accident insurance. Its entire premium is paid by the Government of India.
