New Delhi: The Centre has accused the Punjab government of selling vaccines to private hospitals at high prices. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said Rahul Gandhi should first take care of his (Congress) state instead of imparting knowledge to others. More than 1.40 lakh doses of covaccine were made available to the Punjab government for Rs 400 and they sold it to 20 private hospitals for Rs 1000.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said Punjab is battling corona, the vaccine is not being properly managed. They have been fighting for the last 6 months, the entire Punjab government and the party have been in Delhi for 3-4 days, who will see Punjab? It is a big sin of the Congress to ignore the people of Punjab for its internal politics. Opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (Shi'ad) President Sukhbir Singh Badal has also accused the government of selling the vaccine at high prices. He said, "There is a covid vaccine in the state, but the Punjab government is selling it to private hospitals. The Punjab government is taking the vaccine for Rs 400, but selling it to private hospitals for Rs 1060.'

Badal said private hospitals are charging Rs 1,560 for every dose from people. A dose is costing Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000 per family. In Mohali alone, 35,000 doses were sold to private institutions in a day. He said it is 'unethical' to make 'profits' from vaccines.
