Central panel visit flood-hit areas of Telangana

HYDERABAD: A Central team visited the flood-ravaged districts of Bhadradri Kothagudem and Nirmal on Friday to inspect the damage caused by recent severe rains and floods.

The six-member inter-ministerial delegation, led by Sourav Rai, visited Bhadrachalam town and the surrounding villages, which were the hardest hit by flooding. The team members examined the damage to residences, roads, agriculture, and other infrastructure. They also interacted with those who had been affected. A photo exhibition on flood damage was also held at the ITDA office by the Bhadradri Kothagudem district administration. 

D. Anudeep, the district collector, informed the central team of the losses caused by the natural disaster. He estimated that the damages to several departments were Rs 162 crore.
Previously, the team visited flood-affected regions in Nirmal district. They visited the Kadam dam, which saw record inflows due to torrential rainfall in upstream areas, including neighbouring Maharashtra, last week.

Nirmal district collector Musharraf Ali Faruqui informed the team about  the flood damage.  Rahul Bojja, the secretary for disaster management, informed the delegation, which also visited Adilabad and Mancherial districts to examine the damage.

When the team returns to Hyderabad, it will meet with Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and other top officials. The team will be briefed on the ground situation and the estimated losses experienced by several departments by state officials.
