Chennai: In a significant crackdown on illegal drug activities, the Chennai police conducted extensive raids on several private hostels in Potheri, near Chennai, on Saturday. The operation led to the seizure of substantial quantities of cannabis, including cannabis-infused chocolates and cannabis oil.
The raids were executed by a team of constables from the Tambaram City Police, who targeted hostels in the Potheri area suspected of being involved in drug distribution. During the operation, law enforcement officials detained 32 college students, including one female student. The detained individuals are currently being questioned at a private marriage hall, where police are conducting individual interviews to gather more information about their involvement and the source of the drugs. Among the items seized were large amounts of cannabis in various forms, such as raw cannabis, infused chocolates, and cannabis oil. The confiscated substances have been transferred to the Maraimalai Nagar police station for further examination and storage.
The police operation marks a significant move against drug abuse in educational institutions and reflects the authorities' ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug activities in the region.
