Chennai: The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the opposition Pattali Makkal Katchi Working people's party)- PMK) both applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on Friday that three farm regulations would be repealed.
Greetings on Modi's announcement M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, called it a win for the farmers' nonviolent protest. Stalin said, history demonstrates that people's opinions should be respected in a democracy. He said that the nonviolent protest's achievement in regaining rights indicates that India is Mahatma Gandhi's country.
Stalin also stated that the DMK can be proud of joining farmers in demonstrating and adopting a resolution in the state Assembly demanding the federal government to repeal farm legislation.
K.N. Nehru, Tamil Nadu's Minister for Municipal Administration, told reporters that the repeal of the three farm rules was initially advocated by DMK President M.K. Stalin. "The union government's removal of agricultural lws is a big triumph for our farmers and a great victory for our democracy," DMK MP Kanimozhi remarked.
The decision to repeal farm rules for the benefit of farmers, is a positive step, said PMK Founder S. Ramadoss, Despite the fact that 150 farmers died during their more than year-long protest, Ramadoss believes the repeal of the regulations is a triumph for them.
