Raipur: On Sunday morning, BJP's central observers arrived at the party headquarters in Raipur, intensifying the anticipation surrounding the selection of the next Chhattisgarh chief minister. For the task in Chhattisgarh, the BJP has enlisted Union Ministers Arjun Munda and Sarbananda Sonowal, along with BJP general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam.

The central observers from the party landed in the Naxal-affected state with the aim of finalizing the appointment of the state's new chief minister. Their schedule includes meetings with the 54 newly elected MLAs in the state capital. The legislative party leader is anticipated to be chosen during a meeting scheduled for later today. Meanwhile, the delay in announcing state leadership in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, even a week after the election results, has faced criticism from the Congress.

Om Mathur, BJP’s Chhattisgarh in-charge, Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and party co-in-charge for the state Nitin Nabin also touched down at Chhattisgarh's Swami Vivekananda Airport. Contenders from the tribal community include former Union minister Vishnu Deo, Renuka Singh (who resigned as Union minister after being elected as an MLA), former state ministers Ramvichar Netam and Lata Usendi, and MP Gomti Sai, a winner in the assembly polls.

Additionally, potential chief minister candidates from Other Backward Classes (OBC) include state BJP chief Arun Sao (who resigned as an MP after being elected as an MLA) and bureaucrat-turned-politician OP Choudhary. In the recently concluded polls for the 90-member state assembly, the BJP successfully seized power from the Congress's Bhupesh Baghel-led government. The results, declared on December 3, saw the BJP secure 54 of the 90 seats, while the Congress, which had won 68 seats in 2018, was reduced to 35 seats in Chhattisgarh.
