Due to lockdown across the country, most of the schools organised online lectures. A Principal Shyam Kishore Singh Gandhi has taken a unique initiative in Dumka village Bankati, a tribal area of Jharkhand. Most of the children of his school do not have a smartphone, so in view of their problems, they have installed loudspeakers in the entire village. With their help, online classes are being held for two consecutive hours from April 16.

These loudspeakers have been installed either on trees or on walls. Children are being taught with the help of seven teachers. Gandhi told that "There are a total of 246 students in this school from the first to the eighth class, and 204 do not have a mobile phone. Classes start at 10 am in the morning. If a student has any doubt or wants to ask a question. So he/she can send his/her doubts to me from anyone's mobile, their problem is solved the next day. He told that this technique is working, and whatever is being taught students are understanding it well. The elders of the village are also supporting him. He says that children are now enjoying their studies."

Praising the initiative, Dumka District Education Officer Poonam Kumari said, "This effort is commendable. All government schools in the district should adopt this model so that when schools open after lockdown students should complete the syllabus." She further said that she will soon see this way of teaching by visiting the school and the village".
