Chinese Prez holds virtual summit with leaders of France, Germany

BEIJING: On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met virtually with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

According to reports, Xi stated that the combined impact of big global changes and the pandemic, both unprecedented in a century, has created several global difficulties that must be solved through global collaboration.

"We need to bear our responsibilities to offer more stability and assurance to a turbulent and fluid world," Xi said, noting that China and the EU share much common understanding on promoting peace, seeking prosperity, and advancing cooperation. Xi stated that the two sides must improve their discussion, remain committed to collaboration, and achieve steady and sustained advancement in China-EU relations.

He stated that the two sides must continue to maintain multilateralism and advance significant global agenda items.

"The European side cherishes China's crucial and positive role in global affairs," Macron and Scholz declared, "and is eager to work closely with China to jointly address climate change, public health, and other critical global concerns."

The two leaders stated that the European side is ready to cooperate with China to ensure a successful EU-China summit and to advance relations between France and China, Germany and the EU. The leaders discussed the key issue of Ukraine's current position.
