Chinese soldiers who entered Leh in civilian clothes forced to retreat after locals protest, ITBP intervenesSrinagar: A group of Chinese soldiers crossed the Indian border and entered the Changthang area of Nyoma block in Leh district. They were forced to go back by local people after they crossed the Indian border to enter Ladakh’s Changthang village in east of Leh via two vehicles. The incident reportedly occurred four-five days back.
According to a media report, the Chinese soldiers, who were in civilian clothes, were objecting to the local nomads allowing their cattle to graze in the area. However, the locals forced them to return after strong protests from the local residents, who also informed ITBP personnel in the area. Changthang, located at an altitude of 14,600 m above sea level in Rushpo Valley, is mostly inhabited by Tibetan refugees and the land is home to the Changpa nomads.
Meanwhile, the two countries are engaged in a military confrontation eastern Ladakh for eight months now at Pangong Tso, Chushul, Gogra-Hotsprings and along the Line of Actual Control. A few day ago, MEA said, "Situation witnessed in the last 6 months along the LAC has been a result of the actions of Chinese side which has sought to effect a unilateral change in status quo along the border in Eastern Ladakh."
