Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was in Golaghat for a day, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a number of development projects in the district.

The Chief Minister dedicated a 670 metre long Railway Overbridge at Furkating Railway Station on the Furkating By-Pass of the Golaghat-Merapani Road to the people's service. The ROB has constructed at a cost of Rs 45.66 crore by the Golaghat Rural Road Division. Dr. Sarma also dedicated the Furkating cricket pitch and the ACA Cricket Pavilion in Golaghat. The cricket pitch and the pavilion were built by ACA near the Furkating Sports Association's playground for a cost of roughly Rs 75 lakh.

Apart from that, the Chief Minister also dedicated a Solid Waste Management Project in Golaghat, which was built with a funding from the 15th Finance Commission. He also lay the foundation stone for the Deputy Commissioner's Integrated Office Building in Golaghat, which would cost Rs. 50 crore to build.

The Chief Minister stated at a meeting held on the occasion of the inauguration of the Furkating Railway Over Bridge that the ROB had been a long-standing request of the people of the district and that with its inauguration, traffic congestion at the railway crossing will be reduced, in addition to facilitating smooth transport services to Merapani and the Assam-Nagaland border.

He stated that the State government is working to improve road connectivity throughout Assam, stating that three flyovers, including the ROB at Furkating, have just been inaugurated in the state, and that construction on numerous more flyovers and bridges is now underway. According to Dr. Sarma, the State government plans to build over 7000 km of roads in the coming fiscal year.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the initiatives taken for the overall development of Golaghat district, stating that land has already been assigned and Rs. 50 crore has been sanctioned for Sati Sadhani Sadhani University, indicating that the university's academic session will begin shortly.
