New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda expressed condolences on the passing of renowned Jain muni Acharya Vidhyasagar Ji Maharaj on Sunday. The revered Jain seer breathed his last at Chandragiri Teerth in Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh.

PM Modi paid tribute to Acharya Vidhyasagar Ji Maharaj's contributions to society, highlighting his efforts towards spiritual enlightenment, poverty alleviation, healthcare, education, and more. He reminisced about receiving the muni's blessings and recalled his visit to the Chandragiri Jain Mandir in Dongargarh, where he had the privilege of spending time with the revered saint.

Similarly, JP Nadda expressed shock at the demise of Acharya Vidhyasagar Ji Maharaj, lauding his profound impact on Jainism's spiritual heritage. Nadda praised the muni's teachings, characterized by knowledge, compassion, and goodwill, which continue to guide society and culture.

Acharya Vidhyasagar Maharaj, born on October 10, 1946, in Sadalga, Karnataka, was revered as a towering figure in the Digambar Jain community. Initiated as a Digambara monk at the age of 22 under Acharya Gyansagar Ji Maharaj's tutelage, he embarked on a dedicated spiritual journey, eventually ascending to the esteemed position of Acharya in 1972.

Throughout his life, Acharya Vidhyasagar Maharaj devoted himself to the study and application of Jain scriptures and philosophy. His mastery over Sanskrit, Prakrit, and other languages facilitated the creation of numerous insightful commentaries, poems, and spiritual treatises, enriching Jain literature.

Among his notable works are the Niranjana Shataka, Bhavana Shataka, Parishah Jaya Shataka, Suniti Shataka, and Shramana Shataka, cherished within the Jain community for their profound wisdom. Additionally, Acharya Vidhyasagar Maharaj advocated for the promotion of Hindi and its adoption in the justice delivery system, showcasing his commitment to linguistic and social causes alongside his spiritual pursuits.
