New Delhi: In the politics of Uttar Pradesh, since the independence of the country, the Congress used to have a single rule till the nineties, but now the position of the party has gone through even smaller parties. BJP, on the other hand, is creating history one after the other. In the 2022 assembly elections, for the first time in 37 years, Congress contested 399 seats and won only 2 seats. Disappointed by the defeat, the Congress left the field of the local body MLC election, due to which now the Congress is going to reach the ground in the Legislative Council. After independence, for the first time in the state, the condition of the Congress has become so bad.

Let us inform that 100 seats are fixed in the Legislative Council of the state, out of which 36 are elected from the local body, 36 from the assembly quota, 8 from the graduate quota, 8 from the teachers quota and 12 members from the governor's quota. Out of 36 MLC seats in the local body, BJP has won 33 seats and has 66 members. At the same time, 17 are of SP, 4 of BSP, 2 of Shikshak Dal, one of Congress, one of Apna Dal (S), one of Nishad Party, one of Jansatta Party, one from Nirdal Group, 3 Independent Legislative Council members. Apart from this, three seats are vacant.

The only MLC of Congress is Deepak Singh. Deepak Singh was elected MLC from the assembly quota in the year 2016 and now his term is ending in July this year. With this, not a single Congress leader will be left in the Legislative Council, who can present the party's side in the Upper House. The prospects of Congress returning to the Legislative Council are also not visible at the moment, because neither the party has sufficient number of MLAs nor the party has contested on the seats of local body quota. Therefore, there will be no leader of the Congress in the Legislative Council.
