Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Sunday urged the Center to give the Union Territory Puducherry a complete statehood with special status. Taking part in the Fourth Governing Council meeting of the Policy Commission in Delhi, the Chief Minister kept some important and long pending issues of 'Puducherry in the federal region' before the Council for which special attention was required by the Commission.
A copy of his issues and demands in the meeting was released to his media by his office. After highlighting the performance of the Puducherry Government in various areas including agriculture and health, the Chief Minister appealed for the grant of the state with a special status for the Union Territory. Narayanasamy demanded a special package for industrial development of Puducherry. He said 'The federal politics of our country demands active participation of states in the development process.'
He demanded the government land owned AFT mills to clear dues of workers and banks. He also proposed the demands to expand seaport and airport in the state province. MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) has been implemented in Puducherry during the last five years. An investment of Rs 42.66 crore was done on the proper development of the Puducherry state. A huge employment was also generated by implementing various schemes and policies.
