Anant Hegde surrounded all-round by insulting Mahatma Gandhi, Congress bid, 'Bapu's certificate of patriotism'

New Delhi: Congress has targeted BJP MP Anant Kumar Hegde for making a statement on the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Congress spokesperson Jayveer Shergill has said that BJP should be named Nathuram Godse Party. Shergill has said, "Mahatma Gandhi does not want a certificate of patriotism from the party that was the spoon of the British government. BJP should change its name to Nathuram Godse Party."

Former Union Minister Hegde had criticized the Father of the Nation while addressing an event organized in Bengaluru. He described the freedom movement as a drama and questioned how such people can be called Mahatma. Uttara Kannada MP Hegde asked the question how such people are known as Mahatma in India. He said, "The whole freedom movement was a big drama played with the consent and support of the British. Satyagraha and hunger strike was also a drama."

He said that it was not a real fight, but a freedom movement done by mutual alliances. Reacting to Hegde's statements, Karnataka MP B.K. K. Hariprasad has said that he is Godse's son. Hariprasad said, "They say something in Parliament, but the real face of the BJP is what Hegde has said. This is the double character of the BJP. If the BJP believes in Gandhi, then he (Hegde) should act."
