New Delhi: Congress on Thursday targeted the Modi government at the Center over the steep fall in GDP growth rate and unemployment, accusing PM Modi of pushing the country towards the economic emergency. The Congress said that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman should resign herself or should be sacked by PM Narendra Modi for this 'economic catastrophe'.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also said that "In the current situation, Major political and financial surgery is required within the government". Surjewala has told the press, citing figures related to the fall in GDP, unemployment and GST arrears to the states, "Today there is a darkness of economic devastation all around the country."

Surjewala has further said that livelihood, bread, employment have ended and businesses and industries have come to a standstill. The economy is devastated and GDP is on the cards. The country is being pushed towards the economic emergency. Referring to the Finance Minister's statement of 'Act of God', Surjewala said that," sinking economy from 'Act of Fraud' for 6 years the Modi government now wants to get rid of things by calling it 'Act of God'.
