Chandigarh: A group of contractual teachers in Ludhiana, Punjab, took to protesting on Monday, making a symbolic statement by climbing atop a water tank in the Jawahar Nagar area. The 103 contractual teachers, led by Harvinder Singh Balaga, the State President of the B.Ed Teachers' Union, are demanding the regularization of their service after completing a decade of dedicated work. Expressing dissatisfaction with their current monthly salary of Rs 6,000, the protestors insisted on meeting Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to secure permanent employment.

The demonstration drew the attention of local police and administration officials, who arrived at the scene to engage in dialogue with the protestors and convince them to descend from the water tank. Sameer Verma, ADCP, assured that talks would be held to address the concerns raised by the teachers and that decisions would be made accordingly.

Despite these assurances, the teachers stood firm in their demands, emphasizing the need for a meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to discuss their grievances and seek a resolution to their long-standing concerns. The protestors lamented the inadequate monthly salary of Rs 6,000 and expressed their determination to continue the protest until their demands are met, highlighting the urgency of addressing their plight and ensuring fair compensation for their dedicated service.
