NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the railway tragedy in Odisha on Friday, saying that rescue efforts were in progress there and that those who needed it were receiving it.
In addition, PM Modi announced an ex-gratia from the PMNRF of 50,000 for the injured and 2 lakh for each deceased person's next of kin.

To assess the situation, the PM spoke with Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of railways. The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, and a cargo train were all involved in a terrible triple train disaster on Friday in Odisha's Balasore area that resulted in several fatalities and injuries.
"Upset about the train crash in Odisha. My thoughts are with the grieving families during this time of sorrow. May the injured people get better quickly," tweeted PM Modi.
"Had a conversation with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and assessed the situation. All available help is being provided to those impacted, and rescue operations are currently taking place at the scene of the accident, the PM stated.
The next-of-kin of each person killed in the train accident in Odisha would receive an ex-gratia payment from the PMNRF of two lakh rupees, according to the Prime Minister's Office. The hurt parties would receive $50,000. Ex-gratia of Rs. 10 lakh for the deceased, Rs. 2 lakh for those who were severely injured, and Rs. 50,000 for those who suffered lesser injuries have been announced by the railway minister.
