The price of basic chemicals, which is a small stock with large importers of India, has gone up by 30%. Drug manufacturers have said that if the situation does not improve soon, there may be a shortage of essential medicines in the domestic market.

In Madhya Pradesh, raw material worth Rs 100 crores of paracetamol, norfloxacin, ofloxacin, prednisolone, degja and all kinds of vitamins come from China every month. Apart from China, raw materials can be sourced from Europe and America, but its cost will be two to five times that of China. China is the largest exporter of raw materials for pharmaceutical manufacturing in the world. Its share is more than 70%. Other countries export only about 30% of the demand of the whole world. Due to this, orders will be fulfilled from there too. Dr Darshan Kataria, joint president of Pithampur Industrial Organization and executive member of the Small Scale Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association said, "The main center of the raw material from China is Hubei, the capital of Wuhan, and the most likely coronavirus threat in the same region. Imports from 17 districts of Wuhan region have been completely stopped."
