Country's largest handmade Tricolour hoisted in Leh

New Delhi: The entire country is celebrating the 152nd birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi (Gandhi Jayanti 2021) today. Everyone is paying homage to Bapu in his own way on this occasion. In the same vein, Gandhi Jayanti is also being celebrated in a very special manner in the Union Territory of Ladakh. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the largest hand-made tricolour flag was hoisted in Leh today. It has been planted in the Zanskar Valley in Leh. The weight of this tricolour is 1000 kg. It is 225 feet in length and 125 feet in width. The khadi tricolour is designed in collaboration with a Mumbai printing company.

Army Chief MM Narwane and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh were present on the occasion of the unveiling of the largest tricolour and Gandhi Jayanti. The tricolour will also be installed in Hindon on the occasion of Air Force Day on October 8. Zanskar is a tehsil in Kargil district which is located in the Union Territory of Ladakh and comes on NH-301, 250 kilometres from Kargil. This valley is about 105 kilometres away from Ladakh. That's where the Zanskar range is a mountain range of Ladakh.

Geologically the Zanskar range is part of the TethyHimalayas. The average height of the Zanskar Range is 6,000 meters (19,700 feet). The eastern part of it is known as Rupshu. There has also been a long-term demand to declare Zanskar as a district. Is one of the beautiful places in India whose beauty attracts everyone. The Zanskar Valley is adorned with snow-covered mountains and clean rivers. This valley is also known by local names like Zahar or Zangskar. When Buddhism began to spread in Ladakh in the seventh century, it also affected the Zanskar Valley and became a centre of devotion to Buddhism.
