KARNATAKA: In a heartwarming tribute to the triumph of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, two couples in Karnataka have bestowed the names 'Vikram' and 'Pragyan' upon their newborns. Local media reports reveal that a couple residing in the Yadgir district of Karnataka decided to name their infants after the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3's lander and rover on the lunar surface on August 23.

Although the births of these babies preceded the Chandrayaan-3 mission, the parents opted to rename them to honor the remarkable accomplishment achieved by the lander and rover. Balappa and Nagamma welcomed their baby boy on July 28 and proudly named him Vikram. Similarly, Ningappa and Shivamma's child was born on August 14 and received the name Pragyan. The naming ceremony for both youngsters took place on August 24, the day following ISRO's announcement of the mission's success.

In a previous instance in Odisha's Kendrapara district, several infants were christened 'Chandrayaan' by their parents to celebrate this significant achievement. Notably, four babies – three boys and a girl – born at the Kendrapara district hospital on a Wednesday evening were all bestowed with the name Chandrayaan.

India accomplished a momentous feat on August 23 when ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 effectively touched down on the moon's southern pole, establishing a new milestone. This success solidified India's status as the fourth nation, following the United States, China, and Russia, to achieve a successful lunar landing.
