Wrestler Anuj Kumar has been selected for the coaching camp for the upcoming Asian Wrestling Championship after the Delhi High Court's decision to allow five wrestlers to take part in the trials. The court was informed about this on Wednesday. All five wrestlers have taken part in the selection trials for the tournament to be held in Kazakhstan from April 9 to 14.
The Central Government's counsel gave this statement before Justice Pratibha M Singh on the petition of five wrestlers: Anuj Kumar, Chander Mohan, Vijay, Ankit, and Sachin Mor. The Wrestling Federation of India had thrown him out of the trial last month, after which he took refuge in the court.
The Central Government's lawyer, Manish Mohan, has said that in view of the allegations of sexual misconduct and arbitrariness on WFI, the Sports Ministry has formed a monitoring committee, which is also going to select players for international tournaments. The committee has fixed the selection criteria, whose information has been given to all.
It has been said in the reply filed by the Centre that, as per the order of the Hon'ble Court dated March 9, 2023, the Monitoring Committee had allowed the five petitioners to participate in the selection trials, which were conducted by the Committee on March 10 and 11. Based on the trial results, Anuj Kumar has been selected for the coaching camp for the Asian Championship.
