Thiruvananthapuram: Many smuggling cases are coming to the country. Recently, the National Investigation Agency has filed an FIR under the Unlawful Activities Act, 1967, in the case of gold smuggling in Kerala. Sarath PS, Swapna Prabha Suresh, Fazil Farid and Sandeep Nair have been named in the FIR. The NIA took Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair two accused from Bangalore into custody in this case. Both of them were currently sent to judicial custody for two days. Both the accused have been remanded in ANI custody for eight days by the ANI court on Monday.

Let us tell you that in this case Kochi Economic Affairs Court sent accused Katie Ramis on 14 days remand. He was arrested from Malappuram. The Customs Department has sent him to the Quarantine Center in Karukutty and the court will consider his custody application on 15 July. Enforcement Directorate has also become active in this case along with the NIA FIR. In view of the suspicion of a huge conspiracy behind gold smuggling, ED can initiate investigation by registering a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Under the PMLA, the ED has the right to seize all the assets of the accused created by smuggling gold and take bank accounts.

A senior ED official said in his statement that he is closely monitoring the entire matter and is in touch with customs as well as NIA officials. He further said that the manner in which 30 kg of gold was being brought together in the diplomatic bags of UAE, the work of people like Swapna Suresh, Sandeep Nair and Sareeth PS cannot be completed. According to him, this is the work of a large international network, in which these people are doing pawns. He said that it would be the main goal of the investigating agencies to expose this large network. And our aim is to control it.
