NEW DELHI: As per data published on Saturday (April 8, 2023) by the Union Health Ministry, India witnessed a further increase in the number of daily Covid cases, with 6,155 new infections reported in 24 hours. This tiny increase occurs the day after the nation recorded 6050 cases.
With this, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the nation increased to 31,194, an increase of roughly 2891 cases.
A review meeting with the health ministers of all the states and Union Territories was presided over by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. He urged states to maintain vigilance and readiness for disease management.
Mandaviya further advised the State Health Ministers to assess health preparedness with district administrations and health authorities on April 8 and 9 and to perform mock drills of all hospital infrastructure on April 10 and 11. He also advised states to monitor trends in influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) cases, send enough samples for COVID-19 and influenza testing, and speed up whole genome sequencing of positive samples in order to identify new hotspots.
It was observed that 23 states and Union Territories had average tests per million below the national average.
"Regardless of the new COVID variants, the tried-and-true COVID management strategy of "Test, Track, Treat, Vaccinate, and Adherence to COVID Appropriate Behaviour" is still in place. He claimed that doing so will make it easier to implement suitable public health measures "said Mandaviya.
