COVID updates: India reports 2,876 new cases, 98 fatalities in 24-hrs

New Delhi: India has seen 2,876 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, including 98 deaths as a result of the infection. According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday (March 16), the country saw 3,884 discharges in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total recovery rate to 98.72 percent and total recoveries to 4,24,50,055.

According to ministry data released today, the overall number of active COVID-19 cases in India has decreased to 32,811. The country's total death toll today stands at 5,16,072. The first death from the COVID epidemic was recorded in India in March 2020. Today's daily positivity rate is 0.38 percent. Up till March 15, 78,05,06,974 samples had been tested for COVID-19, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). On Tuesday, 7,52,818 of these samples were examined.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry has announced that COVID-19 immunisation for children aged 12 to 14 will begin today. For those in this age group, only the Corbevax vaccination would be utilised. Also, starting today, anyone above the age of 60 can get vaccinated with the precautionary or booster dosage.
