Covid-19: Kerala recorded 3,593 new cases; Toll climbs to 1,714 with 22 deaths

In a decline in fresh Covid-19 infections, Kerala state recorded 3,593 fresh cases on Monday, propel ling the caseload to 4,89,702.  At the same time, the toll climbed to 1,714 with new 22 fatalities. As many as 5983 people were recovered of the infection, taking the total recoveries to 4,08,460, while 79,410 people are undergoing treatment for the disease,  Kerala Health minister K K Shailaja said in a press release.

One day prior, Kerala had recorded 5,440 fresh coronavirus. In the last 24 hours, 32,489 samples were sent for testing, taking the cumulative to 51,30,922 specimens examined thus far. Twenty-two more deaths, including that of a 13-year-old boy, were confirmed due to COVID-19, taking the toll to 1714. Malappuram recorded the highest number of cases i.e, 548, Kozhikode 479, Ernakulam 433 and Thrissur 430, while Idukki saw the lowest number of cases with 42, Pathnamthitta 43 and Wayanad 50.

Of the positive cases, 53 were health workers, 61 had come from outside the state and 3070 people were infected through contact. As many as 3,16,096 people are under observation in different districts, of whom 2,96,208 are in home/ institutional quarantine, including 19,888 in hospitals. Two more areas were added to the hotspot list while seven places were removed, the release added.
