Creating environment free of terrorism essential for fostering peace: PM Modi to Imran Khan

New Delhi: After a landslide victory in Lok Sabha election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told his Pakistan PM Imran Khan that creating “trust and an environment free of violence and terrorism” was significant for developing peace and prosperity.

Khan called him PM Modi on Sunday to personally congratulate him over his landslide victory in the polls.

A statement from the External Affairs Ministry reads, “The Prime Minister thanked the Prime Minister of Pakistan for his telephone call and greetings. Recalling his initiatives in line with his government’s neighbourhood first policy, Prime Minister Modi referred to his earlier suggestion to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to fight poverty jointly. He stressed that creating trust and an environment free of violence and terrorism were essential for fostering cooperation for peace, progress and prosperity in our region,”

Imran Khan on Sunday had a conversation with PM Modi over a phone call, the first interaction between the two leaders after the Balakot air strike, and expressed his “desire for both countries to work together for the betterment of their people.”

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Faisal said in a tweet, “PM spoke to PM Modi today and congratulated him on his party’s electoral victory in Lok Sabha elections in India. PM expressed his desire for both countries to work together for the betterment of their peoples,”
