Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley on Thursday,  expressed his desire to see wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Paine return to the game. Simultaneously, Hockley stated that it was Paine's decision to step down as captain, which was backed up by the board.

After his vulgar text conversations with a former Cricket Tasmania employee from 2017 came to light, a distraught Paine stepped down as Test captain, just three weeks before the Ashes began at The Gabba. His management revealed a few days later that he will be taking an indefinite mental health hiatus from all forms of the game.

"We would absolutely love to see Tim play for both his state and Australia again. We'd like to see him playing and performing again as soon as possible "SEN Test Cricket spoke with Hockley.

After the Paine text storey became public, Cricket Australia took a lot of heat for how it handled the situation in 2017. However, Hockley, who was named CEO on a permanent basis in May of this year, praised Paine's time as captain during the 2018 Sandpaper Gate scandal, which caused a lot of turbulence.
