75% of Maharashtra ministers facing criminal cases: Reports

Mumbai: The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) released a report on the ministers who took oath in the Cabinet of Eknath Shinde government in Maharashtra 3 days ago. According to this, 75 per cent of Maharashtra ministers have criminal cases against them. This has been declared by the ministers themselves in the election affidavit.

On June 30, Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Since then, there has been churning about cabinet expansion. After 41 days, on August 9, the first expansion was done with 18 ministers. Maharashtra now has 20 ministers, including the CM. After the cabinet expansion, the Association for Democratic Reforms and Maharashtra Election Watch analysed the affidavits of all the ministers submitted in the run-up to the assembly elections in 2019.

According to the analysis, 15 (75 per cent) ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves and 13 (65 per cent) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. All the ministers are crorepatis and the average value of their assets is Rs 47.45 crore. The minister with the highest declared total assets is Mangal Prabhat Lodha, who was elected from the Malabar Hill seat, ADR said. His assets are worth Rs 441.65 crore. Bhumare Sandipanrao Asaram, who was elected from the Paithan seat, the minister with the lowest declared total assets, has assets worth Rs 2.92 crore. Shinde does not have a woman member in the council of ministers. Eight (40 per cent) ministers have declared their educational qualifications to be between class 10 and 12. While 11 ministers (55 per cent) have declared educational qualification of graduation or above. A minister has a diploma.
