JODHPUR: A young man was kidnapped by two of his friends in Jodhpur after he jokingly said to be in possession of cryptocurrency, police said on Thursday Hiren Sharma, a final-year B.A. student, was the victim.

His friend Ayush summoned him to his apartment on February 6. When he arrived, he was driven to Phalodi and then to Jaisalmer by his friend and other young people. At knifepoint, he was questioned about cryptocurrency. They stripped him down to his underwear. The teenagers threatened to kill him and demanded a ransom of Rs five lakh when he denied holding cryptocurrencies.

Hiren showed them his bank account information in order to persuade them that he didn't have any money. On February 7, the suspects returned to Jodhpur and abandoned him near the circuit house before fleeing.

After that, the victim went to the Udaymandir police station and filed a report. The event is being investigated thoroughly. Ayush and several pals have been held by the police, and an investigation is underway.
