Bhubaneshwar: IMD recently issued a warning for Cyclone Fani. Cyclone Fani is considered next to the super cyclone and has been categorised as an extremely severe cyclonic storm by the Indian Meteorological Department. Cyclone Fani is billed as the most severe cyclonic storm since the super cyclone of 1999 that claimed close to 10,000 lives and left a trail of destruction in vast swathes of Odisha, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre. To be noted that the cyclone, with wind speed over 200 kmph, has affected most of the Andhra Pradesh coast and Odisha coast, This severe cyclone is likely to affect West Bengal and Jharkhand.

Here it is to be noted that Cyclone Fani has resulted in heavy rainfall as the sea levels rise dramatically, sending a destructive wall of water, gushing over people and property. It is worth mention here that the threat is also from wind speeds which in some cases go up to 274 kmph. Hence it's turning out to be one of the biggest and powerful cyclones that have hit the country. Due to the strong winds, Ranchi, which is the north of Odisha, and Jharkhand, have recieved around 204 millimetres of rainfall.

However it is worth mention here that the extremely severe cyclonic storm has affected a lot of people and weather officials warned of the destruction of thatched houses, roads, and crops in eight districts of West Bengal and advised people be evacuated from coastal areas. It is to be noted that in Puri, thousands of people have been evacuated to safe places, district officials are on high alert and an advisory has been issued to residents to not venture out today. Reportedly, it's raining heavily across Odisha accompanied with strong winds.

Reportedly, After crossing Odisha, the cyclone is likely to move towards West Bengal before tapering off. However, no casualties have been reported so far from any part of the state.
