New Delhi: Former Tata Group chairman Cyrus Mistry (54) was cremated today as per Parsi customs at the Worli crematorium in Mumbai. Cyrus' last journey from his Sea Facing Mansion in Walkeshwar, Mumbai to Worli's cremation ground. Earlier in the prayer meeting organized for Cyrus Mistry, Gayatri Mantra and Bhajans of Govind Gopal were also sung.
Anil and Akash Ambani, HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh, NCP leader Supriya Sule and many family friends had arrived to attend Cyrus' funeral. However, his family had requested people not to come for the condolence meeting along with the information about the last rites. Let us tell you that Cyrus died in a road accident. The luxury Mercedes car that Cyrus Mistry was in was running at a speed of around 134 kilometres per hour. This has been revealed from the last CCTV footage of the car. The car had crossed the check post of Charauti at 2.21 pm on Sunday afternoon. The place of occurrence is 20 km away from here. Mercedes car covered this distance in just 9 minutes.
The police said that the car collided with a road divider due to speeding and a mistake in judgment at the time of overtaking. Both Mistry and Jehangir, who lost their lives in the accident, were not wearing seat belts. After hitting the divider, the front airbags of the car opened, but the rear airbags did not open at the right time. Cyrus and Jahangir were sitting behind. On Sunday, an eyewitness also said that the car was at high speed and collided with the divider while overtaking another car from the wrong side.
According to the postmortem report, the internal parts of Cyrus Mistry suffered severe injuries in the accident. In medical terms, it is called polytrauma. For this reason, Cyrus Mistry died on the spot. The postmortem of Cyrus and Jehangir was done late Sunday night at JJ Hospital in Mumbai.
