Islamabad: Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria has requested his cricket board to lift the life ban imposed on him for spot fixing in 2013. Kaneria, who has taken 261 wickets in 61 Tests from the Pakistan team, is keen to return to cricket and is also keen to play in domestic cricket.

In a letter sent to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani, the 39-year-old Kaneria law firm has requested the lifting of the ban, allowing the cricketer to earn his livelihood through the game. Kaneria was banned by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for life time. When his appeal against it was rejected, the PCB also banned him.

Danish Kaneria has said on several occasions earlier that if players like Mohammad Aamir and Salman Butt can be banned, then it would be wrong to deny them livelihood. Let me tell you that Kaneria was found guilty of spot-fixing with Mervyn Westfield in the 2009 English County Essex match against Durham. He has been seeking assistance from the PCB for a long time. Kaneria is only the second Hindu player to play for Pakistan. Before that, his maternal uncle Anil Dalpat also represented the Pakistan team.
