Peshawar: A devastating attack on a Pakistani military base resulted in the deaths of 23 people in the bomb blast.

The incident unfolded in the Dera Ismail Khan district, situated on the outskirts of the tribal region bordering Afghanistan. Responsibility for this heinous act has been claimed by the Tehreek Jihad Pakistan terrorists.

The assault commenced as militants forcefully rammed a truck into the border wall, while others launched an attack wielding firearms. Reports suggest that the explosion ensued from the detonation of military ammunition housed within the base. Shockingly, the attack occurred during the night while most were asleep, around 2:30 am.

The majority of casualties were individuals in civilian attire, leaving uncertainty regarding their identities as either Pakistani soldiers or civilians. This grim incident follows closely after a previous terrorist attack at the Miyawali Air Base last month, where terrorists managed to down three fighter jets. Additionally, recent confrontations involving the Baloch army resulted in the loss of 14 Pakistani soldiers, further escalating tensions in the region.

Dera Ismail Khan, once a stronghold of the TTP (Pakistani Taliban), is now associated with the TJP (Tehreek Jihad Pakistan), a group claiming affiliation with the outlawed TTP. The TTP has a history of targeting the Pakistani state and its institutions over the years, aiming to overthrow the government and enforce its stringent religious laws.

Last week there was a Taliban assault on two border checkposts in the Chitral district of the troubled northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the deaths of four Pakistani soldiers and injuries to seven others.
