Today is the birthday of Indian swimmer, biker and athlete Deepa Malik. Deepa's lower back limb is paralysed, yet she participated in all adventure sports and won many awards. Deepa is the first Indian woman to make India proud by winning a silver medal at the Paralympic Games. She is associated with the Himalayan Motorsports Association and the Federation of Indian Motorsports Club.

Deepa travelled 1700 km in 8 days at zero temperature, which she had climbed to a height of 18,000 feet, where there was a shortage of oxygen. The yatra was completed through several difficult routes including the Himalayas, Leh, Shimla and Jammu. It was 'Red De Himalaya' motorsports. Deepa was born on September 30, 1970, in Bhiswal village district Sonepat, Haryana. Her father was an experienced Colonel BK Nagpal. Deepa's husband is Col Vikram Singh, who has two daughters Devika and Ambika.

Deepa is not an ordinary human being. Deepa suffered from paralysis below her waist at the age of 30. This dangerous disease also did not diminish Deepa's confidence. Deepa, the wife of an army officer and a mother of two, has the power to turn every adverse situation into opportunity and success. There was a big twist in her life when she complained of a spinal tumour in 1999. This was the time when the Kargil war crisis was looming in the country. Deepa's husband Vikram was also fighting for the country in this war. It was a difficult time for Deepa's family, where Deepa's husband Vikram was fighting the Kargil war, while Deepa was fighting her tumour disease at home. But in the end, Deepa's family won both battles.
