New Delhi:  Despite increasing speculation that IPL 2024 might be his last, Deepak Chahar, a teammate of MS Dhoni in Chennai Super Kings, remains convinced that the iconic cricketer still possesses the prowess and physical endurance to extend his IPL career for two more seasons.

Despite the speculation that IPL 2023 marked Dhoni's last season with CSK, especially after leading his side to a record-equalling fifth championship title, the 42-year-old assured fans of his return for IPL 2024 as a token of gratitude for their unwavering support.

Since then, opinions have been divided on whether Dhoni will indeed retire after the upcoming season. Speaking to former Indian cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra on YouTube, Chahar emphasized that Dhoni's performances in IPL 2023 demonstrated that he still maintains his lethal form.

"In T20s, you retire when you feel 140kmph is extremely fast. Last year, you see how MS Dhoni hit sixes against 145kmph, and we see that in the nets as well," Chahar stated.

Chahar further expressed his belief that Dhoni is focused on playing this season, leaving the decision about his future in IPL to the CSK captain himself.

“He will play this year. I think he will decide after this season. I personally think he can play for two years," Chahar added.

During CSK's triumphant IPL 2023 campaign, Dhoni featured in 16 matches but only managed to score 104 runs, raising doubts about his future beyond the season, especially given his absence from the game since the IPL 2023 final. However, despite statistics indicating otherwise, Dhoni's loyal fanbase anticipates his continued brilliance in the upcoming season.

While Dhoni's batting contribution may decrease, his leadership and presence on the field are expected to remain vital for the five-time champions.
