New Delhi: The Central government has ordered 118 Arjun tanks to further strengthen the Army. The procurement of these tanks is said to cost 7,523 crores rupees. The Defence Ministry has finalised a contract for the Purchase of 118 Main Battle Tanks (MBT) Arjuna for the Indian Army last Thursday. As per the information received, the Ministry of Defence has placed an order for these tanks to The Heavy Vehicle Factory, Chennai. Let us also tell you that MBT MK-1A is a new version of Arjun Tank. According to reports, the Central Government has ordered 118 Arjun tanks to further strengthen the Army. The procurement of these tanks is said to cost 7,523 crore rupees.

On the other hand, the ministry's statement said, "This tank can set accurate targets both day and night. At the same time, you can go to all the areas comfortably. It has also added some new technology. It is equipped with accurate and better firepower. It has been designed and developed by DRDO. It will be a major project showcasing indigenous potential in state-of-the-art defence technologies.''

The deal is said to open up a huge opportunity in defence manufacturing for more than 200 Indian companies, including MSMEs, and provide employment opportunities to about 8,000 people. The ministry says the construction of the tank started in June 2010 and the tank was fielded for tests in June 2012.
