Ahmedabad: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's reply to BJP's Gujarat unit president CR Patil's statement has come to the fore. He said that giving free freebies not to the people, but to your friends and ministers, creates a Sri Lanka-like situation. In fact, on Wednesday, Patil, without naming the AAP, had said that people should not fall into the trap of "freebies culture" as it could lead to the formation of the state and India as Sri Lanka, which is currently facing a serious economic crisis.

Replying to Patil, Kejriwal said, "Giving free freebies to the people does not create a situation like Sri Lanka. Giving to your friends/ministers creates such a situation. Sri Lankans used to give free money to their friends. If he gave it to the public, the people would not have entered his house and driven him away. Freebies is god's offering to the public. Friends freebies is a sin. In fact, Patil had made BJP workers aware of the freebies culture during a programme in Gandhinagar.

Patil had said, "Some people in the country are distributing freebies (free things). But the people of Gujarat should not be misled by such a freebies culture. Do these people (you) want to make Gujarat into Sri Lanka? We should give a befitting reply to such people. BJP workers should explain to the people and warn them about the consequences of the freebies culture. We can see the situation in Sri Lanka on TV which is worrisome. This is because of sharing things for free.''
